Design and Technology

Design Technology has the power to change and shape the lives of young people. We aim to inspire creativity, develop curiosity and explore the limitless capabilities of the increasingly technological world. We challenge our students to respond to the needs of society by developing unique design solutions to solve problems. Students gain awareness of social, cultural and environmental factors around the design industry and we have these factors at the forefront of all that we do.

We use innovative digital design programmes and manufacturing methods to make their idea become a reality. Our learning environment is an exciting hub of creativity, which opens the minds of the students to the world of mechanical automation and robotics, virtual reality modelling and 3D modelling and printing. We promote fun, exploration and problem solving. Studying Design Technology prepares our students for the Twenty-first century world of design, manufacture and technological advancements.

Food Technology

Food is a necessity of life, eating and preparing food intelligently is an art. Studying Food Technology will equip students to not only develop basic practical skills in food preparation, but also to empower them with the knowledge of where their food comes from and how to select their ingredients wisely to make the most of their nutritional value. We are committed to educating our students on the environmental impact of food and how we can all play a part in improving it for future generations.

We aim to take students on a cultural journey through the study of world foods, exploring different delicacies and special diets and how we can adapt recipes to meet dietary requirements. We encourage exploration and experimentation through food, often delving into the world of food science and how various cooking techniques can alter the function and performance of specific ingredients. Students will be given the opportunity to develop new and interesting dishes where they can apply technical expertise to their idea. We aim to equip everyone with the knowledge of basic cooking skills to eat healthily, and encourage those to flourish who wish to move onto the next level of their culinary journey.

Digital

Digital Technology is changing the lives of everyone. Our computing curriculum equips students to participate in a rapidly changing world where work and leisure activities are increasingly transformed by digital technology. We deliver a high-quality computing curriculum which encourages creativity and computational thinking to understand and change the world. In computing students will be taught the basic principles of how digital systems work, and how to put this knowledge into use through programming. In order to prepare our learners for the twenty-first century digital world, we also focus on automation and robotics in the mainstream curriculum. We offer a vast and exciting extra-curricular programme including; the introduction to operating a drone, building and manufacturing using a 3D printers and virtual reality headset club. These clubs are designed to offer opportunities to students that will open their minds to the infinitive world of digital technology.
